1 | Where does Jesus say He is God? | Bible general Archive 1 | IneffableUniverse | 45923
Steve, no offense intended, really, but if YOU know the "truth" because you are a devout Christian, what exactly are all the other non-Christian religions teaching THEIR followers? I mean, the guys who collapsed the Twin Towers truly believed THEY knew the truth too! As you know, in some parts of the world, they were looked upon as heros, FOLLOWING THE TEACHINGS OF THE QURAN AND MOHAMMED. They thought what they did was "right." Remember Waco? Koresh thought HE knew the truth and all it did was end in the deaths of many innocents. The early Gnostic Christians thought that KNOWLEDGE would bring them to the "truth." They, however, were erradicated by the founding fathers of the current Christian doctrine. So, how again is it that YOU know the "truth?" If you do, then you must be God too, because nobody I know would dare be so ostentatious as to presume to know what TRUTH is. They are practicing piety and humility, just as Jesus taught.

Hello Nancy Sorry that I'm lax in responding. I don't know the truth because I'm a devout Christian. Rather, I know the one who called himself the truth (Jesus Christ)--not just that he had the truth (he did), but he was the source of truth. The other teachings you mentioned point to another for truth. Jesus pointed to himself. I trust him, not just his words. Steve |

Well, Steve, that's where we part company (if there was any in the first place). I do not believe in the divinity of Jesus. I think he was a brilliant, charasmatic young man who said many profound philosophical and moral things that people needed at that time, and still find comfort in today. How do you know Jesus wasn't just "pointing to himself" because he was trying to convince people to follow HIM and NOT the temple PRIESTS, who rejected all but the very "pure." After extensive reading, I have come to the conclusion that Jesus was quite the dissident, who strirred up controversy and trouble deliberately to get the attention of not only the common person, but also the priestly class (who ran everything for the Jews). You know that thing about turning the other cheek??? Well, historically, there is a WHOLE different and DEFIANT way to view that statement! Jesus wasn't advocating passivity, he was giving people a way to outsmart the person that did the initial striking. I'll give you the whole historical context in another writing, if you are interested.

Hello Nancy One could say Jesus was pointing to himself. I think it's more accurate that he drew attention to himself to point to God. He certainly exposed the hypocrisy of the priests as a way of drawing that attention. I would like to see what you have on turning the other cheek. If you like, you can e-mail it to me at srbricker@hotmail.com Steve |
