Here's one for you. I listened to this guy for a week at a seminar given by the Biblical Archaeology Society, of which i am a member. "The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture" by Bart Ehrman to order call 1 888 932 7123 He is one of the few expert translators of ancient texts left in this country. "A dying breed," as he referred to himself. I asked him how many languages he can read. He said, "Well, German and French, of course. Then there's Latin, Greek, Hebrew, ancient Syriac, Aramaic..." The list continued, but I don't remember the rest. I also consider Karen Armstrong an expert (as do many). One of her many books, "A History of God" was on the NY Times best seller list for months. It is very scholarly, but extremely enlightening. You might want to pick up a copy if you haven't already read it. I plan on checking out the Amplified Bible a little. But I don't think I will be on the forum anymore. I seem to annoy people with my beliefs. It was a mistake for me to ask the original question. ALL of the scholars I have referred to or read a book by, say "No where in the bible does Jesus say he is God." I just wanted to see if it was possible they were wrong or being too "picky" about wording. But I think they are right. No one in this forum answered the question with anything more than a phrase, word, passage, or verse that is completely possible to interpret in any why one chooses. I lost. I never got a DIRECT answer, despite what all of you well intentioned Christians wrote or quoted. I wonder what Ehrman thinks of the Amplified Bible? Maybe I'll email him..............over and out........nancy |

Greetings Nancy! I seem to recall that I gave you a very direct answer my friend! ;-) You may disagree with what Scripture says, but please don't pretend that no one was able to answer your question. You said that all of the scholars you have read say that Jesus does not claim to be God, but there are many scholars out there who would disagree. So, how do you decide? What is your source of knowledge about an "unknowable" God? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
