NASB | John 5:19 ¶ Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | John 5:19 ¶ So Jesus answered them by saying, "I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself [of His own accord], unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever things the Father does, the Son [in His turn] also does in the same way. |
Subject: Generation or Race? |
Bible Note: Greetings Fatherof4! I too am a father of four! :-) I would say that if Jesus were simply speaking of a future generation in general, He might simply say 'that' generation. However, in Mt. 24, the context includes a very specific discussion of events and signs. In this case, the generation alive at the time of the signs can be described as 'this' generation - even if it is still in the future. As far as Mt. 16 is concerned, I'm not a preterist, but my interpretation is consistent. I see the 'kingdom coming' as occuring at the death and resurrection of Christ. Some of those standing there did in fact see it. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
