Bible Note: "The Apostle Paul in Romans chapter 13 clearly states that we must obey governmental leaders because all authority comes from God." In 1768, who were the governmental leaders? Were not the colonies part of the British Empire? How did it happen that "Christians" obeyed Paul's admonition but yet revolted against the government? Surely, if one can kill government authorities in order to get what he wants, a Christian can abstain from politics! The rest of early American history is not all that pretty either, although professed to be a "Christian" nation. I pay all my taxes and obey all the laws of this country because I greatly appreciate the benefits of God's temporary arrangement of human governments. But I also realize that its a dismal substitute for the true theocracy that is soon to overtake us. Please respond carefully as all things are naked and openly exposed to the eyes of him with whom we have an accounting. (Heb 4:13) The rest of early American history is not all that pretty either, although professed to be a "Christian" nation. |
