1 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | EdB | 39185
Kalos You make me rethink a position on divorce and remarriage. You made a statement,"THE JEWS, GREEKS AND ROMANS OF THE NT ERA CORRECTLY UNDERSTOOD THAT DIVORCE INDEED IS A DISSOLUTION OF THE MARRIAGE BOND JUST AS THOUGH IT HAD NEVER BEEN." Is that factual? I always knew that divorce dissolved the marriage but I never knew it made the marraige as though it had never existed. I'm not challenging but asking here. If Jesus talked about divorce and knew these implications then He would be saying when he gave the exceptions for divorce that after the divorce the marriage in question never existed. If the person was never married they would then be free to marry. Therefore it is not a question of remarriage at all since the first would be considered not to have existed. EdB |

3 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | EdB | 39215
Kalos I assume you have the book, does the author give any reference, or basis for saying in NT time divorce rendered the marriage nonexistant? I have always dealt with two issues, divorce and remarriage. If if divorce rendered the marriage as the author states non existant then there is only one issue divorce and Jesus was very clear on that. Thanks for all the info so far Bro. :-) EdB |

4 | Can a divorced person remarry? | 1 Cor 7:15 | kalos | 39216
Ed: I wish I did still have the book. Unfortunately, this is a book I had read about 27 years ago. Yes, the author most definitely gives bibliographical references and bases for what he says. If he hadn't, who would believe it or even seriously consider it? It definitely comes with references. But, not having the book, I couldn't tell you what those references are. As I said, the book, though no longer in print, is available at amazon.com. |
