Subject: Stay marriaed at all costs? |
Bible Note: Greetings Tuli! This is a long topic, but my short answer would be several fold. 1) 1 Cor. 2:16 says that we have the "mind of Christ". If God calls someone to shepherd His people, I believe that He gives us direction on how to advise them. 2) Secondly, women in the Bible had no right to divorce. It was only the husbands who could. Therefore, the rules in Scripture were given to protect women, not punish them. I don't see anything in Scripture that says a man can beat a woman, or that a woman must life with it. So, I'm not at all uncomfortable in adivising someone to get out of an abusive and dangerous situation. We are all aware that not every possible issue is detailed in Scripture. For instance, Scripture doesn't tell us what to do about car jackings! :-) So, in this case, I believe it is safe to fill in the blanks based on other Biblical principles. But, if you don't, that is your right! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
