Subject: Stay marriaed at all costs? |
Bible Note: Tim, I am disappointed..though I understand your impassoned feelings on this subject. You said 1) 1 Cor. 2:16 says that we have the "mind of Christ". If God calls someone to shepherd His people, I believe that He gives us direction on how to advise them." The first authority we have to determine the mind of Christ is God's Word. Having read so many of your posts, I am truly surprised at your response on this thread. "2) Secondly, women in the Bible had no right to divorce. It was only the husbands who could. Therefore, the rules in Scripture were given to protect women, not punish them. I don't see anything in Scripture that says a man can beat a woman, or that a woman must life with it." While I agree that wives are to be loved as Christ loved the church, this command was given to husbands. Scripture gives wives directions, as well. "for instance, Scripture doesn't tell us what to do about car jackings! :-)" This is true, but scripture does give very specific instructions on relationships and divorce. "no, I'm not at all uncomfortable in adivising someone to get out of an abusive and dangerous situation." A woman who does not have her relationship with God developed to the point where she can hear God's specific instructions for her situation should seperate and seek God for His wisdom and guidance through the Word and the Holy Spirit. God is the defender of the righteous. He is our shield and our buckler.. God bless |
