alien: You posted this statement: "I'm sure not going to 'fight' to elect any human rulers if the disciples never fought to elect Jesus." ...... Now and then one comes across a ridiculous statement on the Forum that vies for first place among all other ridiculous statements. Yours is placed in nomination for that position. --Hank | ||||||

I challenge you to listen carefully to the presidential ads, and see whether or not the word "fight" is used in connection with the struggle to get elected or remain in office. Acts 5:38,39: "Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." |

Greetings Alien Resident! I'm not sure I understand your Scripture reference. For one thing, the quote is not from God, or even from an inspired author. It is an unbeliever advising other unbelievers about their course of action. How does this apply to Christians voting or not? Are we, as Christians, to take advise from unbelievers? Secondly, the context had nothing to do with electing the disciples into a political office, but with the persecution of the disciples because of their teachings. Again, how does this relate in any way to voting or not voting? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

"Are we, as Christians, to take advise from unbelievers?" We'll do more than that if we blindly follow elected officials just because 'their authority is by God." "The context had nothing to do with electing the disciples into a political office." Since no Christians ever voted in the Bible, then none should do so today! I have never used this argument, but you seem to prefer it. |

Greetings Alien Resident! :-) I have never said that 'since no Christian ever voted in the Bible that we shouldn't either'. I would never say that any more than I would say that 'no Christian ever drove a car; therefore, neither should we'. My concern is that you seem to be taking verses entirely out of context to make your point. I can accept implied Scriptural principles if the reasoning is sound. For instance, abortion is never mentioned in the Bible. Yet, there are plenty of principles that I believe support the idea that abortion is wrong. However, as of yet, I haven't seen you point to any solid Scriptural principles to support your position. This wouldn't be important except for the fact that you are presenting your personal opinion on this issue as Scriptural fact. I asked about your Scripture reference in your last post because I thought it was an excellent example of what I have been trying to say - i.e. that it had nothing to do with politics whatsoever. It was a non-Christian advising his fellow Jewish leaders that they ought not to persecute the disciples because they just might be right. If you would care to lay out a sound Biblical argument for your position, I would be happy to consider it. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
