1 | Denounce militant Islam? | Matt 5:44 | Morant61 | 131772
Greetings Alienresident! You wrote: "I promote good citizenry, not patriatism." How does one practice good citizenry if one does not exercise one's rights and fulfill one's obligations as a citizen? If, by my failing to vote, someone obtains an office and uses it for evil, am I not partially responsible for that evil? While I certainly agree with you that we can only have one Master, we must also be good citizens - and that requires that we be active in our governmental processes. You ask: "If, by my failing to vote, someone obtains an office and uses it for evil, am I not partially responsible for that evil?" No. He will answer for his own errors, but if you voted him in, the Scriptures divulge that you will share in his sin. Thank goodness God is so just! I respectfully disagree that one can be a good citizen and not take part in elections. Voting may be a right, but it's not a requirement. Obeying the laws, including the payment of taxes, is required, and I submit equates to good citizenry. The best citizens are Christians, even if they refuse to support the government in all its actions. God's way is the only way, and he does not require nor expect his servants to oblige the secular authorities in all they may request. |

3 | Denounce militant Islam? | Matt 5:44 | Morant61 | 131823
Greetings Alien Resident! I'm not sure I follow your logic my friend. If I vote for someone, who then does evil, I am responsible. However, if I don't vote, and someone gets into office because of my failure to vote and does evil, I am not responsible. By the way, where exactly does Scripture say that I would share in the sin of someone for whom I had voted? :-) This is what I was speaking of when I mentioned opinion my friend. Scripture simply doesn't address voting or not voting. If you choose not to vote, fine! If I choose to vote, that is fine as well. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
