Bible Note: So, are we now to toss out what Scripture actually says because we don't believe it is credible or likely? :-(" Dear Tim, 2 Sam 22:11 "And He rode on a cherub and flew; And He appeared on the wings of the wind. There you have it...the Bible says that the wind has wings! One may carry literalism into absudidty if He does not use the good sense which the Lord as provided him. "As far as the 'His sheep' phrase is concerned, I don't see any relevance or tie to the verse you originally quoted. My orginal question was, 'Where is there a single verse which says that Christ either did not die for all, or that He only died for some'. Your response was to use a verse which spoke of saving 'His people' from their sins. Yet, 'His people' is used throughout the NT (and OT) as a reference to Israel. Thus, 'His people' is not synonymous with 'the elect'." Tim you force me to state the obvious? Jesus came to save His people from their sins. Except for a relatively small number of jews, Israel as a whole rejected the messiah. Therefore, if you identify His People as stricktly jewish then the Bible is flawed. The verse in view, Matt 1:21, says, "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.", I take literally. HE WILL! It does not say may save, or hopes to save, or will try to convince, but WILL SAVE! I'll get back to later on your request for a SINGLE verse. In the mean time perhaps you could find for me a single verse that says mankind is in control of it's own eternal destiny. John |
