Bible Note: John Reformed: Quite frankly the efforts of many of us to "refute Calvinism by Scripture" have not intrinsically been a failure. What has been a dismal failure are the Calvinists' attempts to convince the many of us who are non-Calvinists that Calvinists, if they hold any key to the truth of Scripture, certainly do not hold the only key. So you are being unfair, blinded, biased and misinformed if you think non-Calvinists always fail to refute Calvinism by Scripture. When you and your Calvinistic brothers are unable to accept or comprehend the plain teaching of John 3:16 without adding Calvinistic footnotes to the effect that "world" doesn't mean world, but only the elect of the world, that "whosoever" doesn't mean whosoever, but only the "whosoevers" that are of the elect -- John, when you twist and spin Scripture to make it say what it must say in order to comply with the doctrine of a man named John Calvin, it becomes impossible and totally useless to debate any soteriological issue with you or with any others on this forum who are of Calvinist orientation. You have debated Calvinism on this forum in face of the Lockman Foundation's strong guidelines that discourage this practice, you continue to debate it and set it forth as truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. You attempt to show up those like me, disciplerami and scores of others on this forum, who do not agree with Calvinism, as being incompentent ignoramuses. You Calvinists have a way of changing the subject or deflecting from the subject by adding outside issues. That's exactly what you're attempting to do in your response to my post. You drag in the issue about disciplerami and original sin. His post to which I responded was about his overall views in opposition to Calvinism. And what I said was that I do not agree with Calvinism either, and I don't. I did NOT say that I necessarily embrace ALL of disciplerami's views on every subject under sun. So don't accuse me of forming any kind of coalition. When I came on the forum nearly two years ago I brought with me a mild, docile, and rather passive disagreement with the doctrine popularly known as 5-point Calvinism. Now, after seeing for almost two years the doctrine of Calvinism presented in the way that it has been presented on this forum and having witnessed at first hand the bitterness and divisiveness that have been the sad harvest of all the Calvinistic debates, my former mild and sanguine disagreement with Calvinism has given way to marked and sharp disagreement with it and a distinct distaste for it. --Hank |
