Bible Question: Is the 'sin nature' passed through the Father? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Disciplerami! I have read some of your other posts on this topic, but choose to respond here so that I could start 'clean' so to speak! :-) You deny the doctrine of original sin. How would you explain the following: Psalm 51:5 - "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me." Of course, in Psalm 51, David is addressing his sin with Bathsheba. He acknowledges that he has sinned (v. 3). He acknowledges that his sin is ultimately against God alone (v. 4). He acknowledges that his sin is worthy of judgement (v. 4). Yet, in v. 5, he acknowledges something which is just as important - that his sin is not some aberration, but an expression of his nature from conception on. Notice that he says that he was sinful at birth, and further, sinful from the moment of conception. Now, if sin must be learned, how could a just conceived fetus be called a 'sinner'? Psalm 58:3 affirms the same truth: "Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies." These verses, and others, speak very clearly about a depraved, sinful nature, that we all have even prior to birth. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
