Bible Question:
If the Bible says Baptism is essential to salvation, then why do some believe that Baptism is not neccessary for salvation? Scripture references: Mark 16:16- Jesus said: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved". Acts 2:38- Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Luke 3:21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened up - and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from Heaven. "You are My Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased". I don't want to leave anything out of what Jesus said to do and all the examples of people in the Bible that were baptized, for remission of sins and salvation. Thank you for your responses on this matter. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38, 10:44-48 ... In Mark 16:16 it says "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned." ... it doesn't say "he who believes and is not baptized shall be condemned." In Acts 2:38 "repent" is the present-tense predicate of the sentence, as well as "for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit". But, "be baptized" as the future-tense predicate-to be carried out at some future date. If you read Acts 10:44-48, when were the people saved? Did they have the Holy Spirit before they were saved? I think not. They were saved when they received the Holy Spirit .. then they were baptized by water. PS We have proven baptismal regeneration wrong every time, no matter what paasge is used. |
