Subject: Verses where water alone means baptism? |
Bible Note: Colin you said to Tim, “In Catholic theology original sin is distinct from the sins of the flesh. Catholics view baptism as a sacrament (in that it effects what it symbolizes) that washes us clean of the former; the latter remains for us to struggle against with self-examination and confession. That struggle is integral to our sanctification. Interesting.” I said it becomes more interesting when you read Paul’s writing in Romans, in particular chapter 6, 7, and 8 with that in mind. Forget about baptism complete here. Focus on original sin or sin nature and flesh. Paul is talking about our struggle with sin, his struggle with sin. I’m saying if you read Paul’s words with that thought you expressed that the tension Paul was writing about becomes very clear. That is not to say there is anything in Roman 6, 7, or 8 that advocates baptism just that what Paul writes there agrees and fits the perspective that Salvation deals with one aspect of sin, our sin nature and our walk toward sanctification with the other part our flesh. I'm sorry I confused the issue. EdB |
