These sorts of interpretations are important enough to apply a scholarly lucubration rather than leave them to the prescribed, traditional opinions of others, no matter how joyfully embraced. (By this, of course, I mean you to take no offence. It is only offered by way of explanation.) On the other hand, maybe you can find something Jerome had to say on this passage, it might offer some insight. Anything else?
