punkiedo Let me say first I definitely believe that God heals. He has healed me more than once. That said let's look at the Isaiah 53:5 that you says God has to heal. Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. "He was pierced through for our transgressions," When we are in Christ Jesus we have no longer any transgressions, the word says they are as far as the East is from the west from us. They are GONE! However our physical transgressions may remain. For instance if we rob a bank and then get saved are we are still liable for prosecution for the bank robbery, take isn’t removed at salvation. We see this aspect is only “always” true if we are talking about spiritual transgressions. "He was crushed for our iniquities" Again all of our iniquities are gone, God remembers them no more. However our physical iniquities still remain, if we insulted someone before our salvation they are still insulted after, we can ask for forgiveness but the iniquity remains even after salvation. This statement is only “always’ true if we are talking about our spiritual iniquities. “The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him” Well being – This could be spiritual or physical let’s see. When we are saved are we always in a place of physical well being? No, look at all the Christians that have been put to death for their religion. Look at many Christians today that live in impoverished countries. This has to be talking about our Spiritual well being since we know once we are in Christ Jesus all is well with our soul. This statement can only be “always” true if we are talking of spiritual well being. “and by His scourging we are healed.” Healed - are we healed at salvation ? We know our iniquities and transgressions are instantly erased at salvation. We know our spiritual well being is secured at salvation so then what is healed? Is it physical? If it were physical we would see all newly saved people healed and never get sick again yet that doesn’t happen. What does happen? We know their spirit gets healed and it never gets sick again. Obviously we know this statement is only true for spiritual healing. We know God’s word is “always” true and if we take this passage and try to apply it to spiritual aspects it is always true. But if we take this passage and apply it to physical aspects we know in many cases it is just doesn’t happen. Being human and being physical beings we try to physicalize many biblical truths that are only true in the spiritual realm. Context shows us this passage is talking of a spiritual truth the first two items in context are definitely spiritual, the third could be either but is only ‘always’ true when applied to spiritual conditions. Therefore for us to take the fourth item is say it applies to physical healing is ripping it out of context. Further more we know it is not always true if applied to the physical realm but is “ALWAYS” true if applied to the spiritual realm. I think you do scripture, us and yourself a disservice trying to apply this passage to anything physical. EdB |

Ok so explain Psalm 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Do you know that Salvation in the old testament Almost always means SAVING HEALTH. Jeremiah 30:17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after. Deuteronomy 11:19-21 God tells the children of israel that if they teach his commandments and statutes their days would be prolonged. all of Ps 103 is a promise to life Ps 36:9 God is the fountain of life. Ps 30:1-3 Ps 27:1 Ps21:1-4 Length of days again Pr 22:4 Pr 19:23 PR 10:27 Pr9:10-11 Pr 8:12 THat is just some of them EdB. My God heals me Everytime just like he promised. God doesn't want anyone to suffer that is why he made a provision. Do you realize that every disease in the world can be traced back to 39 root disease. Everything from the common cold to AIDS. Interestingly Jesus took 39 stripes. |

punkiedo Any and all healing comes from the God. And there is an ultimate healing and that is death where we one day will get bodies that are no longer subject to disease. However we now live in an imperfect bodies in an imperfect world, one torn by sin. We get sick and eventually we will die from some sickness. Everyone dies from something. Once again I didn't say God didn't heal, or that we shouldn't pray for our healing. I just said we have have no promise of always being healed in our present situation, therefore we need to trust in God in all things even in our sickness. EdB |

Jesus said these signs shall follow them that believe..and followed it up by saying they will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. I am not saying that God promised we would never physically die. But, God did promise that we lay hands on the sick and they recover. I have yet to see God go back on his word When I pray for people I pray with faith knowing that God is going to heal them PHYSICALLY NOW. And he Does. I am just flabberghasted at the faith or lack thereof with this conversation. You guys sound real intellegent and amaze me sometimes, but WOW! saying God doesn't heal All of your diseases makes this whole book non-sense. If he didn't mean one thing he didn't mean any of it.

punkiedo I never said God doesn't heal. I said all healing comes from God. But I did say that God doesn't always heal. If God always healed Christians would live forever in their physical bodies. Every Christian before you and after you unless they die from accident, violence or trauma has or will die from a disease. To say God always heals is total nonsense there are no thousand year old Christians living on earth today. Faith gets shaken in those that believe, preach, teach God has to heal if only we have enough faith, when they see someone die from a disease. Part of the ministry I’m involved with is dealing with people both lay and clergy trying to make sense out everything after losing a loved one to sickness and having been lead to believe God has to heal. When a loved one does die they are left with nothing. They had believed with all their heart, soul and body God would heal that loved one but then God calls that loved one when home, they are lost. Their faith is shaken to the very foundation, they blame themselves for not having enough faith, the blame their loved one, they blame people around them. Finally they realized what they had been lead to believe just didn't work. Then they begin to wonder what else is wrong. Soon they question everything and many walk away from all religion for a period of time. Some are so hurt, so devastated that what they believed in for so long and so much in hasn’t come to past they never come back to the faith. And that my dear child is heart breaking to witness. Our physical state is important to but what is more important is knowing God loves each of us and He is with us always even in our death. Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints. God is with us when we are sick, He is with us when we are well. He is even with us when we pass from this world into eternity. That my child is not a lack of faith that is reality. EdB |

You guys say God heals if it is his will, but he doesn't promise to heal? Tell that to a beaten bloody Jesus. His stripes were for my healing. Whether I accept that it is up to me.

punkiedo I have step by step shown you that this passage is not talking about physical healing but rather spiritual. Isaiah 53:5 is quoted in 1 Peter 2:24 and there it is even more evident from context this passage is talking about spiritual healing. If you want to believe this is talking about physical healing that is okay. I hope you always find what you believe to be true in your life. However if ever you or someone that you know and love does get sick and is not healed, know this it wasn't God that failed but rather your interpretation of this scripture that was at fault. God never fails His word is just and true. Once again I pray for your good health and that God's face may shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord bless you and keep you. EdB |
