NASB | Isaiah 53:5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed. |
Bible Question: Some say that healing is in the atonement and that all are to be healed and then others say that maybe GOD gives some a disease for a reason. Is healing a guarantee?? I know there are a lot of scriptures saying that it is guaranteed we just have to ask, but there is a scripture in 2 timothy 4:20 that says "...he left tropimus sick...." If it is his will that everyman be healed why was that one man left unhealed??? |
Bible Answer: Isaiah 53:5 says by his stripes we are healed. If this is talking about physical healing then every person would instantly be healed upon salvation just as they are instantly saved upon salvation. If that were true then one would wonder why God included James 5:14 If anyone is sick let him call for the elders... We also see many faithful Christians that are sick Paul in Gal 4:13, Tropimus as you mentioned in 2 Tim 4:20, Epaphroditus in Philippians 2:26, and Timothy in 1 Tim 5:23. However James 5:14 tells us that healing is available to us and that we need to ask and to have faith. We also know that not everyone is healed and the answer to that question is not known to us. However we are given this assurance in Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Many Christians let their physical situation overshadow their spiritual situation both in fact and in importance. God is far more concerned with our spiritual well being. This should be our pattern, our lives are short lived. A physical healing no matter how great or how miraculous will only last as long as the person lives. However the spiritual healing spoken about in Isaiah 53:5 will last for eternity. I heard a quote from a great Christian man that recently died of cancer. When his doctor told him of his cancer he praised the Lord. The doctor was taken back and said you have any idea of what your saying? The man replied, “Doctor, we all are going to die, that is enviable, my destination is certain and I am just a little more aware of my time and the preciousness of the remaining time God has given me to accomplish what I can for his glory.” Should we pray for healing? Yes absolutely! Should we have faith for a healing? We must! Is our healing promised? Yes but in God’s timing and according to His plan and His purpose. However it might be through the ultimate Christian healing, which is our home going. As Christians we should live for the day we are in the presence of the Lord not to extend our lives here, a place tainted with sin. EdB |
