1 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | Morant61 | 75548
Greetings John! Without getting into a long discussion, since I already have several swords in the fire already, I would make one comment to your post. Part (but I'm sure not all) of the answer to your objection about Arminianism is the drawing of God. I too believe that left to his own devices, man would never seek God. However, John 12:32 says, "But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.?" So, I believe that part of the reason that 'natural' man can respond to God's grace is because God takes the initiative and draws all men to Him. Well, I have to get to bed my friend! Yes, I agree with this. God calls all men unto Himself through the Gospel. In fact, 2 Thessalonians 2:14 says that we are 'called' THROUGH the Gospel. If God calls only a few, then He is a respector of persons. I don't even want to suggest such a thing. God's call is indiscrimniate, his 'drawing' is to all. The Gospel is God's power to saved (Romans 1:16). Ah, the foolishness of the message preached! To those who believe, salvation! |

3 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | Reformer Joe | 75852
"If God calls only a few, then He is a respector of persons." I just wanted to mention that the verse which speaks of God not being a respecter of persons is related to His judgment of all men, not His salvation of all men: "There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law; for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified." --Romans 2:9-13 This statement about God being impartial ("no respecter of persons" in the KJV) is in the section of Romans in which Paul demonstrates that the Gentiles are not off the hook because they were not given the Law. Rather than being "good news" for unrepentant humans, this is part of the "bad news" that we all stand under the judgment and wrath of God apart from Christ, no matter our ethnicity or biography. --Joe! |

Hi Joe, That God is not partial, biased, or prejudiced has to do with His nature. He will judge all men according to the same standard. He does not judge some men more harshly than others. He is fair and just. That is the idea. This fairness will translate into some being saved and most being lost. It also means that God does not give a free pass to some and others get overlooked. The offer to drink of the living water is to whosoever will. And God means it. He's not playing a game, it's not semantics, it's not a hat trick. Every individual can potentially go to heaven through faith in the atoning blood of Christ. God offers it and man must take hold of it. God's grace reaches down and man's faith takes it. As many as received...He gave the right to become children of God. Have a good dan! |

I agree with you here: "He will judge all men according to the same standard." "The offer to drink of the living water is to whosoever will." "As many as received...He gave the right to become children of God." My point about the "respecter of persons" was that the verses which use that term do not speak of God giving everyone the opportunity to be saved. While arguments are obviously made that He does give everyone the opportunity, the "respecter of persons" line is used out of its context in such arguments. Kind of like people trying to explain away God's perfect and holy wrath as not REALLY being wrath because "God is love." --Joe! |
