1 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | disciplerami | 75684
Let me see if I understand this: 1. You believe that all men who go to hell and going because the nature they inherited can do nothing but sin- but you stick to the argument that they end of going to hell because of their own sin. 2. You believe that God hand-picked the specific individuals who would be saved-a minority of all people-and he places no conditions on them: even if they act like the devil, they still go to heaven. 3. You believe that Jesus Christ blood would be wasted if he truly died and tasted death for everyone, therefore you proudly proclaim it was pointless for him to die for those God didn't elect to save. 4. You believe that the Gospel isn't good enough news to prick and convert people, so God has to send upon those He elected an 'irresistable grace.' Just curious, did the soldier at the cross receive that irresistible grace to make him say, 'truly this was the Son of God,' or was he convinced by the things he saw? 5. You believe that Christians are remain so depraved that God has to save them even if they don't want to be saved. The faith of calvinism isn't really faith, it is God's 'gift' and the elect can do nothing else. The grace of calvinism isn't grace, because it arbitrary and forced. Calvin's God is looking down and saying, "I picked you and you are going to take My gift!" The free will of calvin isn't really free will at all, not in the way that Webster's would define it. Calvin's grace is just a facade, since God is really the one doing it all. The obedience of Calvin is like a puppet looking at the strings on his hands and saying, 'look at me, I'm dancing.' No, it really isn't like that, it's more like a puppet who speaks and dances, but Calvin's God is moving the mouth to say the words and moving the feet to dance.' Calvin's God moves the mouth to praise God for being so gracious. John, I don't agree with Calvinism :( |

Disciplerami: Brother, join ranks! I don't agree with Calvinism any more than you do. --Hank
3 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | John Reformed | 75771
Dear Hank, It seems strange that you would ally yourself with one who denys original sin, i.e. pelagianism (heresy), and form ranks against one who espouses scripturaly defensible doctrines. Having failed to refute calvinism from Scripture, is your hope now to overwhelm us by sheer weight of numbers, regardless of the individual doctrines of your coalition? John |

4 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | Hank | 75783
John Reformed: Quite frankly the efforts of many of us to "refute Calvinism by Scripture" have not intrinsically been a failure. What has been a dismal failure are the Calvinists' attempts to convince the many of us who are non-Calvinists that Calvinists, if they hold any key to the truth of Scripture, certainly do not hold the only key. So you are being unfair, blinded, biased and misinformed if you think non-Calvinists always fail to refute Calvinism by Scripture. When you and your Calvinistic brothers are unable to accept or comprehend the plain teaching of John 3:16 without adding Calvinistic footnotes to the effect that "world" doesn't mean world, but only the elect of the world, that "whosoever" doesn't mean whosoever, but only the "whosoevers" that are of the elect -- John, when you twist and spin Scripture to make it say what it must say in order to comply with the doctrine of a man named John Calvin, it becomes impossible and totally useless to debate any soteriological issue with you or with any others on this forum who are of Calvinist orientation. You have debated Calvinism on this forum in face of the Lockman Foundation's strong guidelines that discourage this practice, you continue to debate it and set it forth as truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. You attempt to show up those like me, disciplerami and scores of others on this forum, who do not agree with Calvinism, as being incompentent ignoramuses. You Calvinists have a way of changing the subject or deflecting from the subject by adding outside issues. That's exactly what you're attempting to do in your response to my post. You drag in the issue about disciplerami and original sin. His post to which I responded was about his overall views in opposition to Calvinism. And what I said was that I do not agree with Calvinism either, and I don't. I did NOT say that I necessarily embrace ALL of disciplerami's views on every subject under sun. So don't accuse me of forming any kind of coalition. When I came on the forum nearly two years ago I brought with me a mild, docile, and rather passive disagreement with the doctrine popularly known as 5-point Calvinism. Now, after seeing for almost two years the doctrine of Calvinism presented in the way that it has been presented on this forum and having witnessed at first hand the bitterness and divisiveness that have been the sad harvest of all the Calvinistic debates, my former mild and sanguine disagreement with Calvinism has given way to marked and sharp disagreement with it and a distinct distaste for it. --Hank

Dear Hank, Of course, if I am correct in my pre-suppositions, all of your points are brought to naught (and vice-versa). However, I will defend my God-given right to interpret the bible according to the light I have recieved. As long as God is pleased to have me remain on this forum I will proclaim the truth as I know it. I bear you no ill-will, but neither will I be cowed by your displeasure. "You have debated Calvinism on this forum in face of the Lockman Foundation's strong guidelines that discourage this practice," I don't believe that is true. It is merely the opinion of those who weary of strenuous discussion. Especialy when they find themselves without an answer. :-) Let me know when you have something other than ad-hominem attacks to offer. John Reformed |
