1 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | John Reformed | 75585
Hi Tim, Yes "must" Matt 1:21 "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." Matthew seems to indicate that Jesus came to save a particular people (His people). He does not use term's like "all" or "many" or even "some". Jesus has referred to this group as His sheep, and as to Himself as the Good Shepard". John 10:26-28 "But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. John |

2 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | Morant61 | 75611
Greetings John! Of course, I must respectfully disagree. The context of the passage has nothing to do with the Good Shepherd narrative in John 10, since it is a totally seperate occasion as evidenced by John 12:20. Mt. 1:21 probably refers to Israel, so it by no means limits salvation to only some people. Finally, John 10 does not say anything which would rule out those who are not currently His sheep from becoming His sheep. But, I know we will never see eye to eye on this one! :-) I just wanted to make clear that Arminians also believe that fallen man, apart from God's grace, could not respond in faith. We just differ upon whom God extends this grace. I say all, you say some. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

"Finally, John 10 does not say anything which would rule out those who are not currently His sheep from becoming His sheep." Not directly, but notice that he considers the future Gentile believers as already being His sheep: "I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd." --John 10:16 He HAS the other sheep already; He MUST bring them, and they WILL hear His voice. It is good to be part of the right flock, isn't it? :) --Joe! |
