1 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | Morant61 | 75230
Greetings Disciplerami! There is a lot to digest in this post! :-) Allow me to respond to one of your points! You wrote: " Paul tells us why 'death spreads to all men." Most people only quote part of Romans 5:12, and leave of the last words which say "BECAUSE ALL SINNED." Death did not spread to all men by virtue of passed down sin through the father, but death spread to all men because all men do what Adam did: they disobey God." Rom. 5:12 is very specific about it's wording. It does not say that death came upon all men because all men sin (present tense). It does not say that death came upon all men because all men will sin (future tense). But, it says that death came upon all men because all men sinned (aorist tense). If Paul had meant to say that we will all die because we all sin (present tense) or because we will all sin (future tense), he would not have used the aorist tense - which refers to a point in time in the past. So, when could it be said that all men "sinned"? Some people haven't even been born yet, how could they have 'sinned'? Rom. 5:14 even makes the point that death reigned even over those who had not sinned like Adam. Why? Rom. 5:16-18 makes the case that judgement death, and condemnation are the consequence of one sin (Adam's) and that judgement, death, and condemnation come upon all men as a result of what Adam did. This is the essense of the doctrine of original sin. All men are born sinners. All men are born subject to judgement, death, and condemnation because of what Adam did. Nothing in this passage says that these things come upon us only when we actually sin ourselves. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | Is sin inherited from father and mother? | Rom 5:12 | John Reformed | 75340
Come now Tim, you know that a good calvist does'nt believe in "luck". We don't even have "pot luck" dinners. We call em' "pot providence" dinners. No...I'm not kidding! :-) But be carefull in your arguement on original sin. The "T" in TULIP is a slippery slope leading to unconditional election all the way to Perseverence of the saints. :-o I know, you don't have to say it....I'm incorrigible. God Bless, John |
