1 | Verses where water alone means baptism? | John 3:5 | Morant61 | 134696
Greetings Colin! It depends on what you mean by 'otherwise'! :-) Sanctification is accomplished by the Spirit, but lived out by us. I can either live by the Spirit or by the flesh. But, I cannot sanctify myself. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, We can't sanctify ourselves, for sure, but apart from believing on Him whom HE sent, what's out part in the saint-making process? Are we responsible for any of it? Colin |

Greetings Colin! Once He has sanctified us, our part is to live by the Spirit. We can still choose to sin. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | Verses where water alone means baptism? | John 3:5 | Morant61 | 134790
Greetings Colin! I am not a Calvinist! :-) But, no, I do not see an act of sin jeopardizing our salvation. But, I do see salvation as a gift that can be rejected. If a person continually chooses to sin, I believe that said person can become so hardened in their heart he could eventually reject salvation. But, salvation is not lost or gained by anything we do! Greetings Colin! I didn't say that we could lose it by choosing to sin! :-) I said that we could reject the gift. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, I thought you meant that. So once saved, always saved, subsequent sin notwithstanding... Colin |

9 | Verses where water alone means baptism? | John 3:5 | Morant61 | 134813
Greetings Colin! As long as one does not reject Christ, one is saved. Sin can and does have consequences though. It can ruin our testimony and effectiveness as a Christian. It can hinder our growth in Christ. It can even harden our hearts to the point that we would reject Christ. So, I am not claiming that sin is acceptable for a Christian. But, I am saying that we do not earn our salvation based upon anything that we do, nor can we lose our salvation based upon anything that we do. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, If a Christian rejects Christ, walks clean away and never repents of it, is he still saved? Colin |

11 | Verses where water alone means baptism? | John 3:5 | Morant61 | 134816
Greetings Colin! Heb. 10:29 answers this question: "How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?" As I've said my friend, I am not a Calvinist. I do believe that the gift of salvation can be rejected. But, as this verses makes clear, it is the rejection of Christ that causes one to be lost, not an act of sin. I should never sin as a Christian, but if I do, I do not lose my salvation. I didn't and couldn't earn it to begin with. However, I can reject Christ. If I reject Christ, I am lost. I have written some detailed posts on this passage in the past if you would care to read them. Just search for the key words. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, thanks for hanging in here. How do we integrate rejection of Christ with Mat 25:45-46? "Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' "These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Is Jesus saying that to the extent we do not do these things to Him we reject Him, and He us, eternally? Colin |

13 | Verses where water alone means baptism? | John 3:5 | Morant61 | 134879
Greetings Colin! I don't see the message of Mt. 25:45-46 as primarily concerning salvation. It refers to the judgement of the nations after the tribulation. Christians will already be with Christ by this point. Further, this limited judgement doesn't seem to be based upon their works, but their condition is evidenced by their works. Notice that the passage refers to them as either 'sheeps' and 'goats', 'righteous' and 'unrighteous', or 'blessed' and 'cursed'. As we have been discussing concerning sanctification, our 'works' don't make us righteous, God does. Rom. 5:19 says, "For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous." So, to answer your last question my friend, I would say that they did not do these things BECAUSE they had rejected Him, not that they rejected Him by not doing them. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
