Subject: What was the answer? |
Bible Note: graceful Hi and a blessed good morning to you. Graceful I think you have a sound understanding of this subject, but you use words that come dangerously close to the heresy that teaches God lost control of the earth in the garden. That God almost regained it through Abraham but Abraham fell short, so God had to trick Satan and sneaked Jesus on to the earth. But Satan wasn’t done yet and upon His death Jesus had to wrestle the authority (keys of death hell and grave) from Satan’s grasp. This is total and complete nonsense. When I hear people saying Adam gave Satan authority my ears pick up. Adam did not have authority to give Satan anything. Satan was in this world seeking a way to strike at God. He found Eve he didn’t gain any power he just brought man (God’s creation) into the same state he was in, separated from God, blinded by sin. We must be careful not to ascribe to Satan something he never had. Satan is not the master of sin. Satan is in sin himself. Satan because he is a spiritual being has power that exceed ours not because of his sin, but because of what he was a spiritual being. Some would say Satan is the inventor of sin therefore sin is his creation, but sin is the result of rebellion to God and Satan was the first to commit it. Satan is the great deceiver the father of lies and through these tactics he has played upon man’s sin nature. God gave Adam dominion over the earth and the animals, which is very different than authority. Dominion means you dominate something. Man still has it, we change the face of this earth almost constantly with our digging and shifting dirt around. We control and channel the power of nature with hydroelectric dams, wind generators, sea walls, even seeding the clouds. There isn't an animal that doesn't run from man. Even the most vicious and ferocious will run from man unless trapped or hurt. Man is even responsible for eliminating or making extinct entire breeds of animals. Yes man still dominates the world. If we read the curse, God didn't say I transfer anything to Satan. God said man would die. The earth would be cursed not to yield it’s fullness to man. Woman would suffer pain of birth. There is no transfer of power, no abdicating of authority. God remained in control. Colossians 1:13 is an allegory, a word picture, of our salvation. Jesus himself said He did not come to take us out of this world but that we would become lights unto this world. This world suffers the results of sin not of Satan. Satan is God’s adversary; he destroys man not to build a kingdom but rather to strike back at God. The Bible uses statements like god of this world or prince of this world not to establish Satan in some legal position but to describe the effect he has upon the world. God retained all power especially the keys of death hell and the grave. Upon Jesus’ death God gave Jesus those keys, also seen as title deed to the earth. Scripture says “All” authority has been granted to Jesus, Christians only have the right to use his name. Read Exodus 23:25-26 "But you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst. 26"There shall be no one miscarrying or barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.” God is basically saying he would restore man to conditions that existed in the garden if man would serve him. If Satan had authority God could not have done this. Satan and his power is and always was subject to God. EdB |
