Bible Note: itiswritten My apology to you. I was reacting to the heresy that teaches God gave man authority of the earth then man when he sinned forfeited that authority to Satan. Therefore God lost control, God was kicked off the earth and was trying to regain control until He, God managed to trick Satan and sneak Jesus onto earth and win the upper hand. Again your right man was given authority. As you referenced 1 Cor. 15:22-28 man will reign in authority (king, presidents, potentates) until Jesus comes to rule. However this passage is a far distance from the teaching that God got kicked off the earth and was powerless until Jesus accomplished Satan’s defeat on the cross. Many take Matt 4:1-11 as you interpret it. Many others including myself feel Satan really didn’t have the authority to offer those things to Jesus, but had Jesus gave in to Satan's temptation then Satan would have gained that authority to make good on the temptations. In other words Satan’s ability to make good on those temptations hinged on Jesus’ acceptance or rejection of them. This does not diminish or render the temptations any less real. Satan was tempting the man aspect of Christ to gain the God authority he carried. Christ the man knew his trip to glory required the way of the cross Satan was offering glory without the cross. Remember Satan is a deceiver and father of lies, what he is able or not able to do in our lives is dependant upon how much entrance we give him in our lives. Also in reference to Mark 16, we are given the authority to use Jesus’ name, the power is in the name not in anything we possess. EdB |
