Bible Note: Greetings Ancient! Boy! You sure opened a can of worms my friend! :-) I understand what you are saying concerning there being 'no command' to go to church. However, I believe you have went too far the other direction in that church attendence is totally optional. Allow me to explain! How can one encourage others unless one fellowships with others? (Heb. 10:25) You mentioned Acts 2:46. Yet, that verse says that 'they' meet 'together'! How can 'we' meet 'together' if we don't assemble together? :-) While it is true that there is no 'command' in Scripture stating that we must attend church, there are plenty of Scripture that command us to do many things that can only be done in the context of an assembly (or church). The only instances of 'loner' Christians are found in context of judgement, not personal choice. So, I would partially agree and partially disagree with your position my friend. I agree that there is no command 'Go to church'! But, I disagree that Scripture presents fellowship together as purely optional. My best guess would be that no command was given because no one thought that one was needed. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
