Bible Question: Can one be saved and not receive the Spirit? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Searcher56! Having grown up with some pentecostal theological influence (when I was a teenager), I have long recognized that this point was a major weakness among many pentecostals. I believe that Rom. 8:9 directly answers your questions, "You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ." Scripture makes it quite clear that the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer. 1) John 14:17 - "the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you." 2) Rom. 8:11 - "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you." 3) 1 Cor. 3:16 - "Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?" 4) Eph. 2:22 - "And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." 5) 2 Tim. 1:14 - "Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us." 1 John 3:24 - "Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us." So, the short answer to your question is that ,"No, one cannot be saved and not receive the Holy Spirit!" :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
