Bible Question:
Scripture ... 1 Cor 14:27-28 ................... I agree with "Paul never said not to pray out loud together" ... however, where in the Bible does it say we can pray aloud together? Have you read my posts (116386 and 48618)? If the "order of Church services in Pentecostal Churches" is not 100 PERCENT Biblical (the truth) it is trash. The BIBLE says only one person was to speak (and praying is included) one at a time and at the most three are to speak the entire service. If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God" (1 Cor 14:27-28). I know for a fact that someone spoke in Greek John 3:16, then it was incorrectly interpeted. When the Greek speaker challenged the interpetation, what he said was verified by a member of the Pentecostal church, who was a Greek prof. |
Bible Answer: Searcher56 While I'm not a big fan of most examples of praying aloud. I see not prohibition against it nor do I see it mandated. However if God is able to hear us as we all pray quietly at the same time, He is also able to hear us if we pray aloud at the same time. Prayer is nothing more than talking with God. Praying aloud many times encourages and teaches new Christians to pray and how to pray. If it is done correctly all those involved seem to be edified. In my early Christian walk I attended a church where there was this lady that could pray. I learned more from listening to her prayers than I did from all the book, classes etc on the subject. If it is done wrong just so the person can use great flowing words and eloquent speech to impress those around them then there is a problem. At the same church I referenced above there was a man that prayed for the wrong reasons and I learned equally from him what not to do. The problem is not praying aloud but the state of the heart while doing so. Also having the liberty to pray out or remain silent is a blessing. There are times when as we pray, I pray silently then there are times I pray out. I think that liberty comes from knowing we are serving Christ, not man, nor man’s idea of proper form or design. EdB |
