Bible Question: Spiritual Gifts- speaking in tongues. A lady I know believes that if you can't speak in tongues, you are not saved. What is everybody's take on this? I don't think it sounds right, but haven't really read enough about it yet to be sure. |
Bible Answer: austexgal That is a popular misconception in many Pentecostal circles and it is totally without scriptural support. I'm not sure where this teaching comes from but being Pentecostal I know the main Pentecostal denominations do not teach this. We are saved when we ask God in our hearts, Repenting of our sins, and Believing in Christ for the remission of our sins. Ask your friend if a mute, that can't talk therefore can't speak in tongues, can be saved. The correct answer is of course, so if they can, so anyone else This is simply a false teaching and your friend needs to read the Bible and find out speaking is tongues, while a desirable gift, is not necessary for salvation.
