Subject: Two Natures or One? |
Bible Note: Greetings Doc! I am always willing to read whatever I can get my hands on. :-) However, the point of my post was fairly narrow: do we have two natures or just one? It is very clear from their quotes that Hoekema and Murray do not believe that we have two natures, while it is clear also that Bavinck believes that the 'old man' is still alive and well, just not in the center anymore. I'm not sure that reading their entire anthropology chapters is going to change their quotes much. :-) For instance, Murray describes the 'old man' as 'unregenerate man', while the 'new man' is regenerate man. Clearly these two terms would include every aspect of who we were before we came to Christ, and who we are after we come to Christ. Most mainline theologians differ very little in their understanding of man. We are created in God's image, but sin has perverted that image (not eradicated it). But, if you can find some links to their works, I will be glad to read them. I have always been impressed with Hoekema and Murray. I admit that I know very little about Bavinck.
