Subject: Divine Healing, True or False? |
Bible Note: Greetings Kimberly! There is too much to discuss with this issue, so I want to focus on 2 John 3:2. You said, "If 3John2 is not a promise to us then Romans 8:28 is not either. Every promise GOd gave to his elect applies to us when we become the children of God." I would agree that every promise does apply to the children of God. However, 3 John 2 is simply not a promise. Read it again, "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." Where does it say, "God promises us that we will prosper?" It doesn't! It isn't even a statement of fact. It simply a friend writing a friend and wishing him well. However, look at Rom. 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." This is a statement of fact. He isn't wishing it to be so. He is stating that God works for good in all things for those who love Him. This is the problem I have with some many of these false teachers. They take Scriptures out of context. They focus on some minor point, usually misunderstood, and make it something minor - like 3 John 2. Here is the problem with this teaching: God never promised that we would all prosper. He promised that He would meet our needs. He told us that we did not need to worry about what we would eat, drink, or wear. But, we are His to do with as He sees fit. If it is His will to make us prosper, He can and will do it. But, this simply isn't His will for everyone. However, these false teachers prosper by running a pyramid scheme. There are many, like you mentioned, you have bought into the teachings because they hope to prosper and don't. But, the guys at the top, with the TV "ministries" rake in the dough. Look at this way Kimberly, this teaching causes us to focus on money rather than God's glory. God didn't put us here to glorify ourselves. He put us here to glorify Him, no matter how much we make or what we drive. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
