Bible Question: I've caught the broadcasts for Benny Hinn and John Hagee this week, and it seems they are both speaking about 'Divine Healing'. Does anyone know if there is Scripture to support this theology? And, what about the 'Prosperity Gospel', any Scriptural documentation? Please give me your opinion! |
Bible Answer: As a follower of Christ and a believer of the Bible I say this with as much love as I can. You do not want to ask those questions here. I get myself into too many arguments defending the Bible everytime someone posts a divine healing question. I have seen where other's have answered your question supporting healing and prosperity and I agree with them, but I would like to remind you of a few things that are useful when you have scripture questions. 1) The New Covenant is an upgrade from the Old Covenant, therefore, any blessing in the Old Covenant is available in the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:6) 2) If you want to know the Father or His will, look at Jesus and what He did (John 8:19, 8:28, 14:7) 3) Always search scriptures to see if what is taught is true (Acts 17:11) In closing, I'd like to share an expierence that one of my friends had with Benny Hinn. Benny was a guest speaker at her church one week. He dropped in on them during their choir practice for his service (my friend was in the choir there). He had a short talk with them, held up his hands and said, "God bless you all." At that moment, the entire choir fell under the power of the Holy Spirit. I have also seen some of his broadcasts and heard similar stories from my friends and family. I assure you, Benny Hinn and what he preaches is legitimate. Well, i'm probably already going to get jumped on for what I've already told you so I'll make this post worth it. If you're looking for scriptural support watch Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Creflo Dollar, the list goes on. I don't like to use denominations because Christ broke down that wall in joining Jew and Gentile in one body (Colossions 3:11), but the Word of Faith movement preachers are not only founding everything on scripture, but living what they preach. My mother once saw Kenneth Copeland realize that he said something wrong while preaching and he stopped right there, repented and corrected what he had said. In the middle of his sermon. Also, I'd like to warn you about the oppositon you'll face throwing names like Hinn and Hagee out there. In answer to your question, many people have taken quotes out of context, misinterpreted what was said, slandered, and some just flat out don't believe the Bible. Remember that persecution is a part of being Christian. Jesus was persecuted and so was Paul, but we are conquers in Christ (1 John 5:4). Anyway, people can forge or take out of context whatever they want, but when it's all said and done if it's good it'll stand (Acts 5:34-42). God Bless, Jesified |
