In order to fully understand a Greek word, we must look at all instances. In this case, if we exclude the verses I cited, we could be led astray. While you don't have a Greek keyboard, you could cite Strong's number. If you think they are different, determine the difference, similarities and roots ... as well as, how each word is translated into English. There has been at least one translator thrown out of a country (Indonesia), when he refused to translate baptizo into their word for washing. |

I really do understand your point but I kindly ask that you would look at the specific word (not the strong's number) because you would see that they are different!!!!!! The word used in mark 7 is 11 characters long and the other one is shorter. Please seek to understand how the words are used in such instances. The teachings about immersion is clear. |

greatfullydead, I was hoping you would do this. disciplerami, here is some of my own work (research). In Mark 7:4 and Hebrews 9:10, the word is baptismou;ß (baptismos). It is translated baptisms in Hebrews 6:2. This connects the purifcation of the OT with NT baptism ... by washing. Baptismos is a noun masculine. It is from the word found in Luke 11:38, which is baptivzw (baptizo) ... the same word found Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38 and 76 other places. Baptizo is verb. Take note of the differences in the parts of speech. Searcher |
