Scripture ... Matt 4:10, John 4:20-24; Rev 4:10 LisaMarie, Proskuneo (Strong's 4352) is the NT word for worship ... it means kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication. Does "I'm not Hebrew and I don't follow Jewish practices," mean you do not read or follow the OT? Why did you quote the OT? Yes, listen to the Holy Father and not men, not even me ... -If you search the Scripture, the Holy Father will show you that there is one way to worship, by definition. -That God is not your Friend, when you worship (along with other names and attributes). -There are some activities that aren't related to worship, tho some men say they are. -You must prepare for worship and there is not a specific place. Get a lexicon and concordance and pray alot, Searcher |

Definition of "Worship" ........................... The dictionary defines the word worship as "to honor a divine being or supernatural power" It defines the word honor as "recognition of one's right to great respect or to any expression of such recognition". Therefore, in the English language, a person is "worshipping" God by expressing their recognition of God's worthiness. This could be done by singing the hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy" for instance. I understand that Searcher has a very rigid definition of the word worship, however, the vast majority of Christians and members of this forum believe that falling prostrate before God is only one, of many, ways to worship God. |

True. I generally see it this way. However it's a fine line to walk. I do many things because my Heavenly Father tells me it is good. If I buy a transient man a cup of coffee because My Lord teaches it is right, that's honoring him but not worship. So I do understand the point Searcher is making, but I do not agree that the Hebrew definition is the only way to go. I worship with praise and thanksgiving. And often a lot of tears. But that's MY way. Searcher is focused. I can understand why. Until we learn the original language the Bible was written in, can we REALLY know the truth? Literal interpretation leaves room for flaws. Meaningful translations also leaves room for flaws. Take ANY language currently used. Translate ANY other language *literally.* Everyone can remember the "Coke Adds Life" fiasco, right? When Coca Cola tried to advertise Coke in Japan their slogan "actually" read "Coke Brings Your Ancestors Back From The Dead." So Searcher does have a very valid point to make. However, I don't believe you can base that point on one word. I would need to be an understanding of the entire book. Not necessarily the Bible, but perhaps Exodus and Numbers where the Lord explains things to Moses. Can we really understand the gospels without knowing Hebrew? YES, because God sends the Holy Spirit to us with the charism of knowledge. Faith, diligence, worship and praise! Send me Your Holy Spirit that I may know Your ways, Oh Lord! AMEN! Lisa |
