Subject: Are new worship songs scripturally OK? |
Bible Note: Good post, Steve (stjones), and you lend a certain balance to the thread on sacred music. I readily see and concur with your point regarding the merits of contemporary religious music, some of it at any rate. It boils down to being more a matter of taste than anything else. And there's no accounting for taste. The real plumb-line by which any music used in worship should be measured, it seems to me, is its (lyric) conformity to orthodox theology. For decades I've been extremely partial to classical music, and I make no apologies that this fondness has influenced my tastes in sacred music..... By the way, a note about your reference to Presbyterians: I, too, was counted among the "frozen chosen" for some 40 years -- long enough to go from youth to middle age, and long enough to start wearing reading glasses to compensate for my presbyopia :-) Grace and peace to you. --Hank |
