1 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | Emmaus | 83217
Graceful, "Acts 2.. thou will not leave His soul in Hades.." I believe that refers to the human soul of Jesus, as it would to our human souls, but not to Jesus' Divine essence which could not be lost for even a second with destroying the central doctrine of the Christian faith which is the Trinity. That being said, Jesus' experience of the wrath of God and his time in the grace is a divine mystery that can not be fully understood this side of eternity, but only "as through a glass darkly". A study of the doctrine of the "hypostatic union" is what is needed to understand why Jesus could not be separated from his Divine essence. I did post some passages from the catechism on this question, so I won't repeat them, although there is also more on the subject. Emmaus |

2 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | fran1947 | 83224
Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, nither was any deceit in his mouth. 1 Peter 2:21,22 leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth. I feel that Jesus died physically, not spiritually. You see He conqoured death hell and the grave and it took the spirit of God to do this. HE died physically because he took on the flesh of a natural man, but He was still the son of the living God, and it took the spirit of God to quicken the the body of Jesus, and since he is apart of the trinty HE was the spirit, or word made flesh. Which is an example for us. we must be filled with the spirit of God in order to rise to eternal life, and this is what I strive for daily to God be the glory. You see one day we will die that physical death, but if we have the spirit of God in our life and has lived true to his word we too shall live again, this is the promis of the Father. |

3 | Did Jesus die spiritually? | 2 Cor 5:21 | gracefull | 83248
To believe it was merely a physical death would have to mean that Jesus the God speprated from Jesus the man at the cross and Hesus the man descended into Hades. His physical body remained in the tomb until God raised Him. Isaiah 53:9 And HE made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in HIS death; because he had done no violence, nither was any deceit in HIS mouth." Who was HE? Jesus the Christ, the Word, the Son of God, that made His grave with the wicked... Remember..spiritual death is not the ceasaton of existence for the spirit, but rather the seperation from the Father. For us it would be eternal seperation, for Jesus it was 3 days. Jesus declared from the cross,"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me." Whether this seperation was for a minute or three days, Jesus/God was seperated from the Father, unless you beieve Jesus did not mean what He said. Persnally I believe these Words were literal. The fact is, regardless of the extent of His death, whether the extreme physical and emotional agony He suffered up to and on the cross at Calvary or the extended suffering of lose of His eternal connection with God the Father for the brief time He was in Hades...the faith in His death and ressurrection as saviour and Lord is the gospel! Neither of these is heretic, and neither deny the trinity. To believe God the Word, Jesus endured spiritual death which was seperation from the Father for the 3 days is to truly understand the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus, the second Person of the Godhead. Oh what a price to pay for mankind, to experience the seperation from the Father whom He had been with forever...we can't emagine or comprehend the depth of that love.. From the heart God bless fran |

4 | Why before He died? | 2 Cor 5:21 | Morant61 | 83263
Greetings Graceful! May I ask a quick question about your view of Jesus' quote? If, by saying, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?", Jesus was referring to spiritual death in Hell, why does Jesus say this before He died? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | Why before He died? | 2 Cor 5:21 | Spirit_of_Heaven | 83285
Brother Tim, I believe it was at that moment that Jesus bore every sin that had ever been or would ever be committed thus shutting him off from the light of His Father. He cried out to His Father in this single moment of darkness seeking unity with his Father. Spirit_of_Heaven |

6 | Why before He died? | 2 Cor 5:21 | Ray | 83296
Hi Spirit of Heaven, I was interested in your phrase "thus shutting him off from the light of His Father". Isaiah 53:11, "As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it [light] and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities." Isaiah 53:11, NKJ, "He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied." If Jesus felt forsaken, it was only for a moment for He knew what was being accomplished by rendering His soul as a guilt offering. Isa 53:10. He saw the light and was satisfied.
