Subject: Did Jesus die spiritually? |
Bible Note: Greetings in the Name of Jesus! Although I didn't originally pose the question, I too have been thinking much on the price that Jesus paid to purchase my (our) redemption. I believe that we must look beyond physical death, yet it is difficult to reckon or understand exactly HOW our redemption was accomplished . . . the possibility of Jesus "tasting death" (Heb 2:9)so the we would not have to is almost more than I can bear to comprehend, yet I do believe that God wants us to know the depths of His amazing love for us - and I do begin to get a greater grasp as I wrestle with these things. John, just this morning, I was pondering Jesus' words, "It is finished." As I understand it, these were the words sent through Israel AFTER the sacrifice for sin had been COMPLETED. Hence, the animal had died and the priest had presented the blood of the sacrifice in the Holy of Holies. Yet, Jesus uttered these very same words BEFORE He gave up His spirit. SO, are we able then to consider that the penalty for sin involved more than just His physical death? The penalty for our sin was paid in His physical body as He knew no sin - and yet as our sin bearer, Jesus could receive the penalty for our sin. So, HOW this penalty was exacted, I can only speculate, but I am inclided to believe that it was THIS that Jesus was in great anguish over, not the process of physical death. There is soooooooooo much that I do not understand, and much more that I probably never will, but I have been blessed as I consider these great and awesome things of God's Word. Thanks for keeping me on my knees. mommapbs |
