AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness]. |
Bible Question: Did Jesus die spiritually? What happened between the cross and His resurrection? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Weatfields! I disagree with Searcher. If the penalty for sin is death - what kind of death are we talking about? Spiritual death - or separation from God. When Christ prayed before His crucifixion, asking the Father if it was possible for "this cup to pass" Mt 26:39 - what was He really asking? Certainly not for His physical life to be sparred! I believe that He was asking God if there was any other way for Them to bring reconciliation to sinful mankind apart from the process of experiencing the penalty for sin - spiritual death or separation from God. Also, why would Jesus cry out, "My God, why have You forsaken me" if He was not experiencing this? Did not Jesus taste death for us, so that we would not have to? Hebrews 2:9 |
