1 | Individuals seeking, expecting tongues? | 1 Cor 13:8 | jcsav | 140397
I have not done so. However, individuals do seek the Holy Spirit whether it says so or not. Who did I tell to seek for the Holy Spirit? I told them to obey what Pete said in Acts 2:38 and there would be no need for this discussion. This is a bible forum, not a Church. We are discussing "Tongues" because of a question that was Asked (If anyone can remember what that was). However, Martin Luther said it best: "If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the Truth of God except precisely that little point that the world and the devil are at the moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages is where the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is merely flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point." |

2 | jcsav, what does it mean to obey Ac 2:38 | 1 Cor 13:8 | Searcher56 | 142587
I believe you do not understand what it means to obey Acts 2:38. You bring up tongues and it is not there. It is there BEFORE Peter spoke Acts 2:38, not AFTER, so how is tongues evidence of receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit as the result of "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins"?
3 | jcsav, what does it mean to obey Ac 2:38 | 1 Cor 13:8 | jcsav | 142641
Who do you think it was speaking in Acts 2:38. Was it Peter or the Holy Spirit? Did it come from Peter or God. We was discussing Tongues. But my focus is on "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of you sins and YOU SHALL RECIEVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. KJV. If you have not done so. and I have obeyed. Then why do you judge me.
4 | jcsav, what does it mean to obey Ac 2:38 | 1 Cor 13:8 | Searcher56 | 142662
jcsav, Acts 2:38 does say if they obeyed, they would receive the (singular) gift of the Holy Spirit. Then in verse 41, we see that 3000 were added. But there in no mention of speaking in tounge by them. But in in other place in the NT, as already pointed out to you, we receive the (singular) gift of the Holy Spirit when we are save. This is way I don't think you understand the promise of Acts 2:38. Searcher |

5 | jcsav, what does it mean to obey Ac 2:38 | 1 Cor 13:8 | jcsav | 142696
I disagree with you Acts 2:38 can not be any clearer. Peter says "......And you shall recieve the Gift of the Holy Ghost." How many ways can you understand that to mean? You can not be saved without receiving the Holy Spirit. You have not showed me one Scripture that says we receive the Holy Ghost when we are saved. Believing is not being saved. You can believe, yet not be saved. How can you understand Acts 2:38 better than me when you have not been baptized in "Jesus name" and by that I mean literally and not figuratively. And doing so, is also a part of repentance. And doing both, you will receive the Holy Spirit. |

Well, Acts 2:38-41 shows me. Since the 3000 were added to something ... they believed and receieved.

If you asked anyone that have been baptized in Jesus name whether they have received the Holy Ghost are not. Those who have will say so. Those who have not is usually trueful to say they have not. One the Other hand, If you ask anyone that have been Baptized under the statement "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And most all will say they have received the Holy Spirit. And I have notice if one ask how do you know, then there is always someone to tell them that they in fact can claim or is in title to it.
