I believe that if you receive the Holy Spirit the outward manifestation will take care of it self. After all Peter did not preach speaking in tongues, he did preach the True Gospel. And as a result people did recieve the Holy Spirit. But, you are right, you can't be saved without receiving the Holy Spirit.
2 | underlying question in these "..tongues" | 1 Cor 13:8 | Pastor Glenn | 140362
Please excuse me for butting in... I may be wrong, but it seems that the underlying question in these "speaking in tongues" discussions is "Does speaking in tongues show salvation"? I just want to point out that none of the "gifts" of the Spirit show salvation. Any lier can fake "tongues". However, the "fruit" of the spirit does show salvation. Remember that the number 1 fruit is Love. It is very difficult to "fake" love as discribed in the Love chapter (1 Cor 13). Any comments? If I am wrong in my assumption of an "underlying question", then please forgive me. Merry Christmas to all, Pastor Glenn |

3 | underlying question in these "..tongues" | 1 Cor 13:8 | jcsav | 140364
Butt in anytime. I do it all the time (smile). The discussion is not on the gift of tongues. It is on the gift of the Holy Spirit If one have the gift of tongues. They can speak at will and have control of their spirit. On the other hand, some (Me) know that when one is filled with the Holy Ghost for the first time. They speak in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives the utterance and that the speaker is not in control. This do not mean that they have recieved the gift of tongues but that they have in fact received the Holy Ghost (Spirit) Same as they did at the day of Pentecost. Others disagree. |
