1 | Two Natures or One? | Rom 6:6 | DocTrinsograce | 209921 | ||
Dear Tim, It might be fruitful to talk a bit about our labels. If you simply posit a question, and charge off to resolve it exegetically and rhetorically, you run the risk of: (1) wasting time on an answer no one else can use; (2) burning straw dummies; (3) missing the actual sense of Scripture; (4) arriving at conclusions contrary to Scripture. So let us define the word "nature" and how we might bring it to bear at differing points in the salvific experience. After all, there may be instances where stating that people have "two natures" is Biblically valid and other instances where it contravenes the sense of Scripture. In Him, Doc |

Greetings Doc! By 'nature', I mean the sum total of who we are spiritually and physically. My understanding is the 'old man' is our depraved and fallen nature prior to Christ, while the 'new man' is our new nature after regeneration. As I posted, Scripture does not support that we are both old and new at the same time, since the old man has been both 'put off' and 'crucified'. As to your numbered points my friend, what I posted was a study, not a question. So, 1) If someone is not interested, please skip the post. 2) The views I posted on both sides are established with legit quotes. No straw here. :-) 3) When Scripture says the 'old man' is crucified, it is pretty clear that it means the 'old man' is crucified. :-) When it says, we are no longer slaves to sin, I take it to mean that we are no longer slaves to sin. So, I am fairly certain I am sticking with the actual sense of Scripture, unless someone can show me how 'no longer' really means 'presently'. 4) See 3. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Shalom and greetings Tim, I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts. In a way, I agree with both you and is it Steve mostly responding to you. I look at "sin" as the disease we inherited from Adam and "sins" its symptoms. Like you can be over the flu but for weeks have some flu-like symtoms hanging on. You're no longer sick but the coughing and weakness is still there reminding you of a few weeks ago when flu ruled. Sins are the tell-tale signs of once being sold under sin. We are now new creations, but once in awhile sins (not "sin") pop its ugly head up and we can CHOOSE to do or not to do the thing. Sadly, the tell-tale symptoms of sin lasts far longer than flu hangers-on!! :-( Anyway, just my opinion :-) Cheri |
