1 | Kind of truth | Rom 1:18 | zion | 27323
Lionstrong, I asked myself the very same question when I saw this in my study. The string that followed yours claiming that the truth is in John 3:16-17 I see you have asked the same question. Could the truth mention in Romans be Jesus? I replaced the word "Truth" with 'Jesus' and it does seem to fit. But in the amplified, it would claim that mans wickedness hinders and makes Jesus inoperative, surely only in their own lives? And because of this God let's them use their free will so they will drown in their sin. That is one train of thought. The question still remains "What KINDS of truth are there? verse 19-20 speaks about the works of God and what God has made as evidence of THE truth. This is where I asked the question What KIND of truth is revealed? Can you see the dilema? GB (God Bless) Zion |

2 | Kind of truth | Rom 1:18 | Lionstrong | 27345
Dear Zion, The dilemma is a false one because the answer given your question, although pious, is an incorrect one. First there are the various dictionary definitions of truth, and then there are individual truths. Granted, the inspired writers may use a word a little differently than what you might sometimes find in a dictionary, but the translators chose what ever English word you are studying because the MEANING of its Greek or Hebrew counterpart most closely fit the meaning of that English word. So if you want to find out the meaning of an English word in your English Bible. Look first in the dictionary for the definitions given and then see which definition fits best in the context. In any case the definition of the word truth is not Jesus. The Bible says Jesus is the truth. It never says that the truth is Jesus. One would say Abraham Lincoln is tall, but--except to add poetic flare--one would not say tall is Abraham Lincoln. The two statements just don’t mean the same thing. In fact if one takes the second statements literally they are nonsense! The dictionary definition of truth is not Jesus, and the Bible never defines it that way, no matter how pious we want to be. But Jesus is the truth, in that there is nothing false in him. He is the truth, in that in him are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He is the truth in that like the truth he is the same yesterday, today and forever, that is, eternal and immutable. Peace, Lionstrong |

3 | Let's get back to the question at hand | Rom 1:18 | zion | 27360
Why are you avoiding the question? Stop attacking my thoughts a please lets get get to the heart of the matter. The original question is... "What KIND of truth is revealed in verses 18-25 of Romans 1" You answered this with.."What kinds of truth are there?" Nolan said that Jesus is the only truth. Well fair enough but I feel that the verse in question is trying to highlight another truth. The message Bible says... ....But the basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can't see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse.... Paul is writing about God's creation as evidence that God exsists. He is not writing about Jesus being THE truth. So, how can this creation that Paul is writing about in verses 18-25 best be explained as 'truth'? GB zion |

Nolan, I just received a Post from Joe. I think he has explained it best. We were begining to get to the answer albeit slowy, Joe has cut to the chase. He said at the end of his answer that the truth revealed in this scripture is the kind of truth that Condemns man. Later on there is a truth that reveals salvation for man. Thanks for you input, maybe you could help with the other question I have posted and that you gave an answer for before. GB zion |
