1 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | Radioman2 | 94209
Meyer asserts that salvation is impossible without believing Jesus suffered in hell as the believer’s substitute. Question: Where did she hear that one must believe the 'hell doctrine to be saved'? Answer: 'Moreover, in her 1991 booklet, [Joyce] Meyer asserts that salvation is impossible without believing Jesus suffered in hell as the believer’s substitute. Meyer writes, “There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell.”(10)' (To read the entire, uncut article quoted above, go to: http://www.equip.org/search/ and in the search field enter the words Joyce Meyer.) ____________________ '6 Meyer, The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make: A Complete And Thorough Understanding Of What It Means To Be Born Again (Tulsa: Harrison House, 1991), 35-36 (emphasis in original). The 1996 version of this booklet contains slightly different wording, but essentially the same message: '“Jesus paid on the cross and went to hell in my place….God rose up from His throne and said to the demon powers tormenting the sinless Son of God, ‘Let Him go.’ Then the resurrection power of Almighty God went through hell and filled Jesus….His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserved to go.” See Meyer, The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make: A Complete and Thorough Understanding of What it Means to be Born Again (Tulsa: Harrison House, 1996, 5th printing), 41-43.' '10 Meyer, The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make (1991), 37 (emphasis added). The words “in hell” are deleted from this sentence in the 1996 version of The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make. However, substantial references to the general idea remain in this later version (see the example given in endnote six above).' --Radioman2 For further information/explanation, see the references cited in this posting. |

2 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | gracefull | 94277
I was just thinking of when I was a child and heard the gospel message. Jesus died for my sins. He paid the price so I would not have to.... Now that I see in scripture that He did indeed descend, the doctrine of Jesus going into ANY PART of Hell proves true. Now to say that one must realize that to be saved I do not agree with. I did not realize the depth, and still do not, of the price paid for my soul, and yet the Holy Spirit brought conviction upon me and revealed Jesus as my sin offering. I do not believe anyone, especially as a child, can even begin to comprehend the sufferings of the cross much less 'descending' and being seperated from the Father. So I do not agree that believing Jesus descended into hell is not criteria for salvation. The fact that she has retracted this part of the statement is good. Summation...to believe Jesus paid the price for my sins is absolutely necessary for salvation. The understanding of the depth of that message can, and usually does, come after salvation. God bless |

3 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | EdB | 94286
Graceful To understand our salvation and what Jesus did upon the cross goes past our human imagination of His suffering. To really understand it you have to understand covenants (blood covenants in particular) and God's faithfulness in keeping His covenants. Jesus clearly said this is my blood poured out making a new covenant. That covenant was between perfect and perfect and will never be broken. His death paid the price, His blood sealed the promise, His suffering showed His love. The moment Jesus died Satan knew he was in trouble up to that point Satan was sure Jesus would be rescued or step down from the cross. Satan never expected the obedience or love Jesus showed by allowing Himself to be crucified and to die. Yes Jesus descended but it had nothing to do with our salvation, he was on a mission, there were captive souls in Abraham's bosom death held them there. They had be waiting His arrival to preach to them the Good News and lead them home. The rest of Hades (the hot dry side) saw Jesus enter triumphantly and victoriously free "captivity" from death's hold and take His home. EdB |

I guess we will know exactly what happened during that three days when we get to Heaven. We have come full circle back to 1Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. And no doubt none of us are any wiser than before. God bless |

5 | A FALSE TEACHING? Yes / No | Matt 8:5 | EdB | 94314
Graceful Again you try to change the subject. The subject was is this false teaching and is Copeland a false teacher. Others and myself have provided ample proof that this is false teaching, and that Copeland is a false teacher. Now you say well I guess we will find out when we die. NO! Those of us with open minds when faced with the facts as you have been presented already know the answer. Jesus wasn't tormented in Hell, Jesus wasn't an emancipated wormy like spirit being dragged kicking and screaming into hell and Satan and his demons never laid a hand on the Son of God. Yes Jesus did go to the place Hades which is translated hell and there He did preach the Good News and yes He did lead captive captivity (those in Abrahman bosom or paradise) to Heaven. We also know WOF teaching is basically incorrect and that major WOF teachers are teaching heresy and we also know you refuse to see it or if you do see it you refuse to admit it. EdB |
