Isaiah 53:5 says by his stripes we are healed. If this is talking about physical healing then every person would instantly be healed upon salvation just as they are instantly saved upon salvation. If that were true then one would wonder why God included James 5:14 If anyone is sick let him call for the elders... We also see many faithful Christians that are sick Paul in Gal 4:13, Tropimus as you mentioned in 2 Tim 4:20, Epaphroditus in Philippians 2:26, and Timothy in 1 Tim 5:23. However James 5:14 tells us that healing is available to us and that we need to ask and to have faith. We also know that not everyone is healed and the answer to that question is not known to us. However we are given this assurance in Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Many Christians let their physical situation overshadow their spiritual situation both in fact and in importance. God is far more concerned with our spiritual well being. This should be our pattern, our lives are short lived. A physical healing no matter how great or how miraculous will only last as long as the person lives. However the spiritual healing spoken about in Isaiah 53:5 will last for eternity. I heard a quote from a great Christian man that recently died of cancer. When his doctor told him of his cancer he praised the Lord. The doctor was taken back and said you have any idea of what your saying? The man replied, “Doctor, we all are going to die, that is enviable, my destination is certain and I am just a little more aware of my time and the preciousness of the remaining time God has given me to accomplish what I can for his glory.” Should we pray for healing? Yes absolutely! Should we have faith for a healing? We must! Is our healing promised? Yes but in God’s timing and according to His plan and His purpose. However it might be through the ultimate Christian healing, which is our home going. As Christians we should live for the day we are in the presence of the Lord not to extend our lives here, a place tainted with sin. EdB |

EdB: I think your note is very well done, and I agree totally with what you have said. I found a book several years ago, THE GOD WHO HEARS by W. Bringham Hunter,IV Press 1986. I found some deep answers to many questions most of us have about prayer. I also this last year learned the importance of asking to be in Gods direct will, rather than what I feel or I think I should have. When I was told I had cancer, my wife and I prayed to be in the Lords direct will, no matter if I was to live with cancer or be relieved of cancer. I asked my Pastor and Elders to be annointed with oil and prayer over. I asked this in obedience to James 5:14-16. Before this happened there was a time of confession of sins, by all who were led to do so in prayer. All this was done as an act of obedience and faith, that we had given my life to the Lord to do with as His will was to be. With this act done we rested with the assurance that no matter how my cancer turned out I was in the Lord Jesus direct will. I have been content and not anxious about the results. For the time allowed me, even if it turns out I no longer have cancer, I will most assuredly die sooner or later. No matter what we do it is only for a short time at best. Then if we really believe what Jesus said I will be going home to be with Him! As I write this very note my Dad who is 83, is slowly being ussered in to his final home. Some day I will see all those who I have known who have gone home before me. Blessings to you Ed! Merry celebration of Christ's Birth. justme |

Justme, that was a touching and lovely post and I am in agreement with you. I am sorry to hear of your illness and do hope you are healed but you are right, it is more important that you are in God's direct will. I was just listening to an old Kathryn Kulman tape where she speaks on the necessity of giving up our own will for His. This seems like priceless information to me. May the good Lord richly bless you. Peace. |

Denim: thank you for your note. about 35 years ago my wife and I went to a Kathryn Kulman meeting in Los Angles. She had great command of the audience, and was able to "slay people in the spirit" one after the other. At the time Kulman was seen as much the same as Benny Hinn is today in his healing meetings of today. I am sorry to say that Kulman and Hinn have bankrupted so many unespecting Christians faith. I feel so sad for those who are so desperate to have the feeling of being close to God, that they are led astray from the Word God has given us. Just like rat poison which has 95 percent good food in it, so it is with the deadly message these false teachers use to begile and fleece the flock. I hope you do not consider what I have said as a personal attack. I am just pointing out how these false teachers serve a god, and it is not that of Jesus Christ teachings. Blesings. justme |

Justme, Of course I do not see this as a personal attack. You are pointing out these 2 (Kuhlman and Hinn) as false teachers not serving our God or the teachings of Jesus Christ. Since I said I was only listening to her tapes that doesn't attack me as much as them. You say they have a deadly message also. As a fellow christian, please share with me what that is. I believe since you know this, you are now responsible to share it with me since you said as much as you have on here. If anyone else knows reasons why these 2 are false teachers and would not benefit my hearing then please do tell me. Thank you. |

Benny Hinn is controversial for his theology, his practices, and his claims. Christianity Today on Benny Hinn 'Benny Hinn is controversial for his theology, his practices, and his claims. While he at one point denounced the word-faith message, he later picked it up again. 'Representatives of CRI and other evangelical apologetics ministries say they have noticed a pattern of Hinn telling people behind the scenes that he has changed, but then going on as before. (...) 'Indeed, for those who have been keeping an eye on him, Hinn has proven to be difficult to pin down. Not long after telling Christianity Today that the ''faith message'' (as articulated by such teachers as Kenneth Copeland ) does not ''add up,'' Hinn said that speaking out against Copeland was tantamount to ''attacking the very presence of God.'' Also, though affirming the concept of a triune God , he continues to maintain that the Holy Spirit has a ''spirit-body.'' 'In last year's interview with CT, Hinn said he would no longer use the term revelation knowledge in reference to some of his teachings because of the implication that those teachings were directly from God and thus infallible. While he has shunned the term revelation knowledge, just a few months ago on TV Hinn said that the Holy Spirit was at that moment teaching him that God originally designed women to give birth out of their sides. (...) 'According to Hanegraaff , Hinn several times denied to him having made the statement about women and birth. Hanegraaff said he finally told Hinn where he could find the disputed remark on the videotaped sermon. Hinn later acknowledged making the statement, calling it ''dumb.'' Hanegraaff said that when he reminded Hinn that he had credited the Holy Spirit with the teaching, the evangelist chuckled and said he had actually picked up the teaching from the (1963) Dake's Annotated Reference Bible. (...) 'Critics have also questioned Hinn's account of his testimony. Hinn says he was miraculously cured of stuttering, but PFO claims it has talked to several people from Hinn's youth who do not recall him stuttering. And in an article in PFO's next newsletter, Fisher challenges Hinn's claim that his father was the mayor of Jaffa, Israel. Hinn acknowledges that his father did not have the title of mayor, but says he performed the functions of mayor. Fisher says Hinn's father, who is now deceased, was ''a clerk in an Arab labor office.''' Christianity Today, Oct. 5, 1992 (http://www.gospelcom.net/apologeticsindex/h01.html) |
