Subject: Is Limited Atonement Bibical? |
Bible Note: Greetings CDBJ! Good points my friend! I agree overall! The way I like to put it is: Christ's death made atonement for our sins and reconciled us to God. Now, we must be reconciled. 2 Cor. 5:18 - " All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." Notice the two steps. Verses 18 and 19 deal with the atonement - God reconciled the world to Himself by propitating their sins. But, verse 20 says that we must "be reconciled to God". Basically, I'm saying the same thing as you. All sin was paid for on the cross, now we either believe or not. In addition to John 16:9, consider the following verses: 1) John 3:15 - " that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16 ‘‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." 2) John 8:24 - "4 I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins.”" 3) John 3:36 - "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.”" 4) John 5:24 - " ‘‘I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." 5) John 6:34 - "Then Jesus declared, ‘‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty." 6) John 6:36 - "For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”" 7) John 6:47 - "I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life." 8) John 7:38 - "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”" 9) John 11:25 - "Jesus said to her, ‘‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”" 10) John 12:44 - "Then Jesus cried out, ‘‘When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness." 11) Acts 10:43 - "All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”" 12) Acts 13:39 - " Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses." 13) Romans 1:16 - " I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile." 14) Rom. 10:14 - "Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." 15) 1 John 5:1 - "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well." 16) 1 John 5:5 - " Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." 17) 1 John 5:10 - "Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son." One thing is clear, John sure liked the word 'believe'! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
