Bible Note: Hi, Steve! Please forgive my impetus... I only attempted to piece together what I read from your posts... It is clear that you are looking for a specific text that will tell you exactly what you want to hear... I can only apologize for the Word not being an all inclusive and unabridged volume of "here it is!" Please, undestand that I am not seeking to prove a point; I am offering to you Scripture that clearly state how we are to behave as children of the Light: Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? (Romans 6:16) Here's the text you are requesting: "whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death" (Romans 6:16) "For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die;" (Romans 8:5-13) Nowhere in Scripture does it tell you that if you engage sin and make it your lord; you are free from death! Rather, it is obedience and adherance to God that brings us Life! So if you choose to sin and you choose to hold that life of sin, and you choose to not ask for repentence, you truly believe that God is going to welcome you into His Kingdom? If it were that simple, not a single person would ever taste eternity away from the Lord! No one is righteous, not one! But all are called to be holy, in Christ Jesus, as God is holy! Living in sin and claiming to know the Lord are not congruent things: Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation--but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, (Romans 8:5-13) If we are in the flesh we cannot please God! If we sin and believe in our hearts that God has to accept us "as is," are we not being rebellious and usurping God's Authority as we dictate to Him how He is to receive us? Are we stronger than God? Please, read the Bible in its entirety! Jesus did not say all who call me Lord, Lord have guaranteed Salvation; He said those who abide in Me and I in them are Loved by the Father and He will abide in them and I will abide in them! It is imposible for us to sin, take a shield (symbolic icon) and pronounce: "we are saved!" If we choose to serve the god of this world we are enemies of God! (1 John 1:1-9) If we fellowship with Christ we are saved, but if we reject Him, we have nothing! (John 15:5-6) I'll leave you with the parable of the wedding... one guest decided to do it his way... he was cast out! (Matthew 22:2-14) God Bless! Angel |
