Bible Question: I read alot about men and women wearing shorts, wondering if it's ok or not and that we shouldn't wear things which would make others lust for us.Is it right for one to avoid going to places where he/she will be exposed to people who wear revealing clothing in fear of lusting over them?In doing this is this a step to becoming a better christian?or should we learn to not lust even after being exposed to men or women in revealing clothing? For where is the test if we are not faced with the temptation and choose to refuse it or fall for it.Finally is it wrong to wear fine clothing which makes us look and feel good and attractive to the opposite sex? |
Bible Answer: shadow_thorn I live in Florida where shorts are common and let me assure you on some of our older residents they are anything but attractive or lustful. :-) Seriously there are shorts and then there are shorts. Scripture says to dress modestly and I believe everyone knows what attracts attention and what is done for comfort. I attend a church where three exotic dancers attend. One of the ladies is making a real effort to get her life on track, one of the other is also making great strides and the third is relatively new in the process. Each week you can watch the transformation. The first young girl comes dressed in very modest attire, the second one each week gets better and the third still raises some eyebrows. If you asked anyone in the church or on the street they would be able to pick out the girl that still dances they would chose the third one. If you asked anyone to pick out the most attractive they would pick the first. However when they first came to the church probably everyone would have picked one of the other two. The first girl’s beauty is not because she is physically prettier but because she has a transformed by Jesus Christ and her beauty overshadows the beauty of this world. Her modest attire speaks volumes of her confidence and sense of self worth, she doesn’t have to display herself as a piece of cheap merchandise to be noticed. Her beauty comes from her countenance and her character. Truly she is gem that has been pulled from the muck and mire and polished transformed into a sparkling jewel to the glory of God. I’m happy to say a discerning young man also realized this and has made her his wife. They make a beautiful couple. The other two girls are being transformed and polished. I know that when Jesus is finished with them they too will be sparkling jewels depending on the beauty God has imparted into them to make them out standing, not the lust they able to generate by displaying themselves cheaply to this world.
