Bible Note: Greetings Pcdarcan! Let's try this one more time! Many things that people worship are called 'gods', but notice what Isaiah says about these 'gods': Is. 37:19 - "They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands." Notice that the idols were called 'gods', but in the very same verse, Jehovah states 'for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.' In fact, there are numerous places where 'false gods' are mentioned in Isaiah. Here are some examples: Is. 21:9 - "Look, here comes a man in a chariot with a team of horses. And he gives back the answer: ‘Babylon has fallen, has fallen! All the images of its gods lie shattered on the ground!" Is. 36:18 - "Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, ‘The LORD will deliver us.’ Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?" Is. 37;12 - "Did the gods of the nations that were destroyed by my forefathers deliver them—the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph and the people of Eden who were in Tel Assar?" Is. 37:38 - "One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer cut him down with the sword, and they escaped to the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king." Notice that all of these verses talk about things that were called or considered gods by someone. Yet, Jehovah is quite clear when He says: Is. 44:6 - "This is what the LORD says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God." Is. 45:5 - " I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me" Is. 45:21 - "Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me." All of these verses use the same word for 'god' - 'elohim'. I have never denied that Satan is called the 'god of this world'. However, I have denied that Satan is in fact a god. I can call my desk a 'god', but it is just a hunk of wood. You can carve an idol of ivory, call it your god, and worship it. But, it is not a god. Either Jehovah was right when He claimed that there is 'no other gods besides Him' or He was wrong. If you have a complaint, take it to Him. He said it, not me! :-) Now, I realize that you won't accept what He said because your theology will not allow it. The JW's are false witnesses my friend. I will be praying that Jehovah will make His word clear to you that you might be a real witness to the fact that there is no other god but Jehovah, and that Jesus is Jehovah in the flesh.
