Bible Note: Greetings Tara! Nice try! :-) But, your example of John 8:12 and Mt. 5:14 doesn’t fit. Neither verse says that there is ‘no other light of the world’. If they did, your reasoning would be sound, but they do not. You make a lot of points. I’ll try to deal with them, but I will have to be brief since there are so many. :-) 1) John 1:18: “Only begotten” has long been misunderstood by Jehovah’s Witnesses to mean ‘only created’. The term simply means ‘unique’. We know this because Isaac was not the ‘only created’ son of Abraham, yet the term is applied to him in the NT. But, Isaac was ‘unique’ in that he was the son of promise. 2) Ps. 82 mocks human rulers who thought themselves to be ‘gods’. They will die like anyone else. Just like in 1 Cor. 8:5, just because someone calls an idol a ‘god’ doesn’t actually make it one. :-) So, do you believe the Jehovah lied when He said there was no other gods? He uses the same word used in Ps. 82 and Ps. 8 for ‘god’. Yet, Jehovah denies that there is any other god but Him. He doesn’t say any other ‘almighty god’. He simply says ‘no other god’ but Him. Is. 44:6 – “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” Is. 45:5 – “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:” Is. 45:21 – “Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.” These Scriptures are quite clear. You don’t want to believe that Jesus is God, so you twist Scripture to make it say that Jesus is just a god. Yet, Jehovah Himself said that there are NO OTHER GODS besides HIM. Was He wrong? Did He lie? According to Jehovah’s clear words, Jesus cannot be ‘a god’. He must be God. 3) Romans 1:7-8 is not Jesus speaking, but Paul! However, Jesus – during His incarnation – could say ‘My God’ because He was fully man. This does not reflect His eternal nature, but His situation during the incarnation. His eternal nature is clearly revealed in John 1:1-4, where He is called God. 4) Rev. 1:1 – Same situation as above. I too believe only what the Bible says, not what men teach. So, what do you do with Jehovah’s statements above that there is no other god but Him? You asked me about Is. 45:21. I don’t have to do anything with it! :-) It says that there is only one God and I only believe in one God. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
