Bible Note: Sometimes, a simple schema helps to make a point, and in this case I will simply say, let us remember where X marks the spot. If we wanted to go beyond our own personal sense of comfort, we can think of the cross, where the Lord brings all of us together. Mercy and Truth, Righteousness and Peace do meet. If we follow them to the point, I think we will find we have settled this matter. I take the questions you have asked to be rhetorical. God is sovereign and he can do what ever he pleases. But it has pleased him to give us his Spirit and his word as guides so we can know what to expect from him. That’s how he leads us in paths of righteousness, and there is much comfort in having them both, together.
