Bible Note: Mommapbs: I'm not sure what you mean when you write: "the Word is also the voice of God." You are not giving equal weight to the written Word of God and 'What we "hear" from God in our day to day lives,' are you? After reading my previous post and your relply, I'm not sure you read the rest of my post. You write: "1 Cor 14:1 instructs us to desire earnestly spiritual gifts, especially prophesy." I believe I addressed this when I quoted: 'God's intrusion in these cases is sometimes through special gifts in the body that I believe are in full operation today, but are by very nature individual. In other words, every person has his own gift and EACH PERSON DOES NOT HAVE EVERY GIFT. So this working through gifts can't be a means of every Christian hearing from God. In other words, sometimes God intervenes with a prophetic word, but since prophetic words only come through those people who have the gift of prophecy, it's not the kind of thing we all have to cultivate, to learn to do.' (Emphasis added.) We can desire all we want to, but it is the Holy Spirit, not man, who decides who gets what gift. The Holy Spirit, not man, distributes to each one individually as HE (the Holy Spirit) chooses. NASB 1 Corinthians 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. AMPLIFIED 1 Corinthians 12:11 All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses. 'Finally, there are clearly workings of the Spirit in the area of teaching, conviction of sin and comforting of individual Christians. I admit that those workings are private, individual and tailored to individual people. Those kinds of things are not in question here.' To properly understand an article, it always helps to read the whole thing. Mommapbs, you are always welcome to take issue with what I write. You keep me on my toes and I learn from you, as well. :-) May God richly bless you, Kalos |
